Explosion in USA on Thursday, 17 April, 2014 at 09:52 (09:52 AM) UTC.
|Fire crews worked to extinguish a three-alarm fire reported after a large explosion at a home in Dorchester Wednesday evening. The incident was reported just before 9:30 p.m. at a three-story home at 27 Hansborough St., fire officials said. Fire crews said when they arrived at the scene heavy smoke and fire was reported in the basement and upper floors of the home, and a partial collapse of the building was reported on both sides of the home. One witness at the scene said the explosion felt like an earthquake and when she looked out her window the home was engulfed in flames. “I was in my house and I heard a ‘kaboom,'” the witness said. Officials at the scene said at least 12 people have been injured in the explosion, including two elderly people reported to be in serious condition. Everyone from inside the home has been accounted for, officials said, and no fatalities have been reported. In addition to the injuries reported after the explosion, between 30-40 people were evacuated from the neighborhood and brought to a local shelter. The cause of the explosion and fire are still under investigation, and officials from National Grid, the gas provider in the area, said they were investigating to see if there were any issues when the incident occurred. No other information was released from officials.|
